So what is Hypnosis? What is Hypnotherapy? How does Hypnosis work?


What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis could be described as an ‘altered state of awareness. If you typed in to the Google search bar “what is Hypnosis” then this is what you would get:

“The induction of a state of consciousness in which a person apparently loses the power of voluntary action and is highly responsive to suggestion or direction. Its use in therapy, typically to recover suppressed memories or to allow modification of behaviour, has been revived but is still controversial.”

The apparent loss of power is not true. In fact, anyone who has been to see a Hypnotherapist will tell you that they had full control, all the way through the session. All a Hypnotherapist does is guide a client using acceptable suggestions to help them reach their desired goal. The truth of the matter is, the client chooses to see a Hypnotherapist. The client could also chose not to see Hypnotherapist.

Does Hypnosis hurt?

Hypnosis does not hurt, it is a method of healing that causes no physical pain. In fact, the client is often more comfortably seated than the therapist!

If we are dealing with a painful memory from the past, then obviously certain feelings may arise, however with a view to making you feel better in the end.
